Political leaders meet on summary revision of electoral rolls

Gap to be enrolled stands at 77949

SHILLONG/NONGPOH: At a state level function held at DC’s Office Shillong in the presence of DC, Election officials and representatives of INC, BJP, UDP and  PDF om Saturday , the draft electoral rolls were released and shared with all the political parties.
The CEO Frederick R Kharkongor underscored the importance of the current summary revision in the context of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls which are only a few months away.
He said the current enrolment stands at 1846625 and the gap to be enrolled is 77949 of which East Khasi Hills accounts for a gap of 50566 as it covers 17 constituencies. The CEO also informed that the ECI had approved creation of another 84 polling stations for ease of voters as part of polling station rationalization. Election officials were reminded of the urgent necessity to  ensure error free and healthy electoral rolls as electoral rolls are the bedrock of democracy and the entire electoral process. In the context of accessible elections, special steps will also be taken to facilitate enrolment of People with Disabilities (PWD) in the ensuing period of hearing scheduled from September 1 to October 31.
