3 picked up by police after recovery of charred body of a college girl

 

GUWAHATI:  Three persons including a 21-year-old man, his mother and sister have been picked up city police here after the charred body of a 20-year-old, B. Com final year student, Shweta Agarwala, had been recovered from their rented house at Shantipur area in the city.

Police informed that Shweta’s body was found inside the lavatory of her friend Govind Singhal’s (21) residence with over 80 per cent burn injuries. Police is awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of the death. Police also recovered a jar of kerosene oil and a match box near her body.

Police launched a search operation to trace Shweta who is a brilliant student of K C Das Commerce College in the city, at around 6 P.M.  on Monday after her family had lodged a complaint that Shweta had remained untraced since 2 P.M. while on her way back from the college and repeated calls her mobile phone were not being responded.

Police was helped by neighbours of Govind by informing about smoke billowing out of the house of Govind, a friend of Shweta. Both Govind and Sweta have been working as interns in the same chartered accountants’ firm in the city.

Even as the family of Shweta has alleged rape and murder as the cause of the death of their daughter, the police are awaiting the post-mortem report to be sure about the cause of the death. “The investigation is in progress as per the laid down norms and everything will become clear about the death of the girl soon,” an ACP of the city police P Duwarah said.

Shweta’s father, OM Prakash Agarwal, a tax consultant who resides at Manipuri Basti area in the city alleged that his daughter was raped and murdered by Govind. He, however, denied any knowledge about Shweta having an affair with Govind, but acknowledged that both of them working together in a CA firm in the city along with two other girls. Govind’s father, R S Shinghal was stated to be away in Jaipur on a business trip.
