Malki hold off Police charge

Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and UDP working president Bindo M Lanong, who contested the last Assembly election against each other from East Shillong constituency, watch a Shillong Premier League match between Malki Sports Club and MLP at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Monday. Lanong is the president of Malki SC.

SHILLONG: A 15th minute decider by Malki’s Thrain Sing Khongiong was enough to hand a fatigued MLP a 1-0 loss in their Shillong Premier League match on Monday.
Second-placed Malki outplayed the police unit, dominating in possession and creating several near scoring opportunities throughout the game.
Malki took the lead after Khongiong graced a beautiful shot deep in the left flank in the 15th minute.
Malki’s forwards succeeded in applying pressure on an exhausted MLP, who are playing their third straight match in a row.
The police are set to take part in a national tournament, which means that their games in the SPL have been brought forward.
Malki could have earned a two-goal win, but Samson Nongrum missed a sitter in the 70th minute.
MLP produced spells of inspiration towards the close as they created passages of play that could have earned them at least a goal.
On Thursday, Pohkseh will take on league-toppers Rangdajied United at 10:45am while Nangkiew Irat will go up against bottom-placed Mawlai at 2:45pm at the JN Stadium, Polo.
