ILP agitation fails to deter tourists from visiting Sohra

SHILLONG: Despite the ongoing agitations over the implementation of ILP in the State, a good flow of tourists to world-famous Cherrapunjee has been witnessed during the ongoing holiday season.
A visit to the different tourist spots located in and around Sohra on Monday, the last day of the Durga Puja festival, revealed that tourists wanted to make use of the holidays in a befitting manner.
The tourists, mostly from Assam and West Bengal, were full of enthusiasm as they visited the various scenic spots at Sohra, with the biggest crowd being witnessed at the Mawsmai Cave and the Nohkalikai Falls.
“For the last many days we have been getting good response since a large number of visitors have been thronging to Mawsmai Cave during the holiday season,” informed a shop keeper there.
The only disappointment for some tourists who visited Sohra for the first time was that were unable to experience rain at Sohra.
It may be noted that Sohra has remained unaffected by the ongoing agitations over ILP as there was not a single case of violent incidents reported from the area.
Compared to other tourist spots in Sohra, Thangkharang Park which provides a partial view of the plains of Bangladesh is well maintained by the Forest department as the pathways and other utilities were found to be free from litter.
