DDK commemorates 55th Foundation day

Shillong: To observe the 55th Foundation Day of Doordarshan, the Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Shillong organised a programme captioned Talent Mart which showcased the best of music, cultural dances, fashion show, a skit based on the current topic of ‘U Thlen’ and above all a magic show.

Gracing the function as chief guest, C Lalrosanga, Additional Director General, Doordarshan, North Eastern Region said DDK is going through a transitional stage from analogue to digitalised format. He said attempts are on to include more local and regional programmes since the region has such a rich cultural heritage.

Referring to the regional news capsule, which is telecast twice daily, Lalrosanga said the Regional unit of DDK is making serious attempts to include more local and regional news and not push in just national news.

“In the next six months we will produce a host of fresh programmes under different categories to serve the public,” Lalrosanga said adding that in October there will be a cultural festival in Guwahati which would be telecast live.

He asked the viewers to send in questions and suggestions so that DDK could plan better educative and entertainment programmes.

DDK Shillong also felicitated individuals who have supported them regularly by way of entertainment programmes, discussions, talks et al. They included Toki Blah, President ICARE, Ms Silbi Passah, music artiste and teacher, Ms Helen Giri artiste and scholar who now runs La-Riti Academy producing traditional musical instruments, and Patricia Mukhim, Editor, The Shillong Times.
