JOWAI: The 10th annual Church meeting of the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Sepngi which began on Thursday at the Balang Presbyterian Latyrke in Jaintia Hills under Sutnga Presbytery concluded on Sunday in which tens of thousands of believers from across the State attended the services.
Union Minister of State for Water Resources and Minority Affairs, Vincent H Pala, attended the services on Saturday while State Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong, Wahiajer MLA Sniawbhalang Dhar, Nongstoin MLA Hoping Stone Lyngdoh and others attended the services on Sunday.
Rev S Thawmuit and Rev JF Jyrwa were the main speakers in Sunday’s morning and afternoon services respectively.
Choir groups from Sohryngkham Presbyterian Church, Thadlaboh Presbyterian Church and Laitlyngkot Presbyterian Church sang in the morning services while Choir groups from Latyrke, Pohkseh Choir group and Standing Choir of the KJP Synod Minghi sang in the afternoon service.
Speaking at the services, senior Pastor of the KJP Synod, Rev Thawmuit, said that no one can destroy the wonderful creation (human body) of God and if any one does so he will be destroyed the same way.
Rev Jyrwa, a former senior pastor of the Presbyterian Church, said, “Our God is a communicable God. He continues to communicate with his people in many ways and with different voice. God still speak to his people through his only beloved son Jesus Christ.”
“Only if we obey the words of God we would live a happy life,” Rev Jyrwa said, adding that at present families were facing various kinds of problems.
“Young people are addicted to various kind of bad habits. Alcohol addiction is one of the major problems. We have lost many lives in road accidents and the main reasons for such accidents is driving under the influence of alcohol,” he added.
