NPP yet to take action against JHADC CEM
SHILLONG: The NPP is yet to take any action against JHADC CEM and NPP MDC, MB Rymbai, who is accused of molesting a girl.
Rymbai is seeking re-election to the JHADC.
The NPP leadership is banking on the theory that a person is innocent until proven guilty.
The allegation of the 20-year-old girl is that Rymbai molested her in Delhi on the pretext of providing her a job.
A case has been registered against him and investigation is on.
“We cannot condemn a person just like that. Let it be proven in the court of law first that he is guilty,” said NPP state president WR Kharlukhi.
Kharlukhi, however, said he wants the the investigation to go on and the truth to prevail.
In response to the remark of Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh on the issue, Kharlukhi said even Ampareen is not guilty until proven.
He, however, did not refer to the education scam.
Kharlukhi said he does not want to politicise the issue.
Lyngdoh, who is also the chairperson of the Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment, had condemned the incident of molestation and decided to take up the matter.
She had also informed that she would write to the NPP chief to initiate action against Rymbai.
Asked if instances like these will in any way hamper the NPP’s prospect in the upcoming JHADC and KHADC elections, Kharlukhi said, “Just because of few, it does not mean the party is bad and this is something which is yet to be proven.”
Rymbai is now in the people’s court and let the people decide, he added.
