Ri Bhoi farmers ask PM to waive debts
SHILLONG: The Eastern Ri Bhoi Farmers Union (ERBFU) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to waive the debts of poor farmers in Meghalaya.
In its memorandum to Modi, the union has pointed out that the ruling government in the state has a weak agricultural policy.
ERBFU president Donstar Rynghang said natural calamities occur 2-3 times a year and destroys crops and horticulture produce. Rynghang informed that the authority concerned would conduct enquiry or investigations with a long-pending nominal payment. He added that farmers in Ri Bhoi are aware of debt waiver under Kisan Credit Card loan in some BJP-ruled states. “Farmers in the state also wish for the same,” the memorandum said.
