PN Syiem skips CLP meet
Mukul plays host to Cong MLAs, MUA partners
SHILLONG: The members of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and the partners of Meghalaya United Alliance -II met at the residence of the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Wednesday night to ensure unity during the Budget session of the State Assembly starting from Friday.
Sources said that except KHADC CEM P N Syiem, Congress legislators Comingone Ymbon and Ngaitlang Dhar, others attended the meeting.
During the meet, the Chief Minister sought the support of Congress legislators and the MUA partners to ensure a smooth session, source added.
However, it is yet to be known why Syiem, the bête noir of Chief Minister, did not attend the CLP meeting.
The KHADC chief has been at logger heads with Chief Minister for more than six months after the government passed the controversial dual post Bill which, according to Syiem, was not properly discussed in the party forum for a consensus.
The CLP meeting assumed significance at a time when the Congress led government is facing criticism from many quarters especially from within the party legislators on the hurried passing of the dual post Bill in the last session in September.
Besides, the Opposition is poised to take up issues related to the delay in the empowerment of headmen as the matter is still pending in the Supreme Court, worsening law and order situation in Garo Hills and the alleged adamant stand of the MUA-II against government servants functioning as headmen .
The Opposition had also asked the state government to clarify its stand on the current confusion arising out of the dual post Bill which took effect from October 1 last.
The UDP recently questioned as to how the KHADC chief can still continue to hold the post of MDC at a time when other seven legislators quit the posts since October last.
