GNLA splits, Reading forms new outfit
GNLA(F) swings into action, abducts coal trader
Shillong: The proscribed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has suffered a major jolt when a section of its cadres under the leadership with Reading T Sangma, the former finance secretary of the outfit, deserted camps and formed a new militant outfit GNLA-F(Faction).
Confirming this, police sourc
es on Saturday said Reading has made South Garo Hills as his main area of operation.
It is learnt that Reading was unhappy with the manner he was treated by commander-in-chief of the outfit Sohan D Shira who demoted him from the post of finance secretary to grievance cell in charge.
As the finance secretary of GNLA, Reading had to collect money and hand them over to Sohan. Reading’s grouse against Sohan was that the C-in-C kept all the loot when he was the one who was collecting the money on behalf of the outfit.
On Friday evening, Reading Sangma’s group kidnapped a coal businessman, Akhtar Ali, who is married to a Garo lady, from Baghmara. The wife refused to lodge an FIR with the police.
However, police have registered a suo moto case of kidnapping against Reading T Sangma.
Interestingly Jack Marak, who had kidnapped BDOs Dadengre, Baichung recently and other GNLA area commanders have joined Reading’s group.
