HC directive on MRDS closure

SHILLONG: The Megha-laya High Court has sought a clarification from the State Government on its decision to close down the Meghalaya Rural Development Society (MRDS).

While hearing a writ petition filed by the beneficiaries

of the MRDS on October 1, the High Court has directed Government to file a reply through an affidavit by October 31 as to why the government is closing down the MRDS.

It is learnt that there are more than fifteen lakh beneficiaries of the MRDS and forty four thousand households have been covered by the society in five districts of the state.

The MRDS is implementing projects in Ri Bhoi, East Khasi hills, Jaintia Hills, South Garo Hills and East Garo Hills.
